The proposed Gargai Dam project to solve the water crisis in Mumbai has finally been given the green light by the state cabinet. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved the wildlife and environmental aspects required for this project. This will provide more water to Mumbaikars in the coming days. Keeping in mind the growing population of Mumbai, Gargai Dam will be built near Ongde village in Wada taluka of Palghar to ensure adequate water supply. The water storage capacity of the dam, which is adjacent to Tansa Sanctuary, is six TMC and Mumbaikars will get 440 MLD of water per day from this dam, which is eleven percent more than the water they get now. It will be the sixth dam in Palghar and Thane to supply water to Mumbai and the fourth dam of BMC itself. Rs 1250 crore will be spent on building this dam and Rs 3105 crore for the entire project.
