Urmila Matondkar, who shot to limelight through 'Rangeela' in 1995, and went on to star in several Bollywood hits, is making her political debut this Lok Sabha polls from Mumbai North.
Matondkar, who has been campaigning door to door in her seat that comprises six Assembly segments from Malad to Dahisar in suburban Mumbai, has been vocal against the ruling BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The actress-turned politician joined Congress when former MP Sanjay Nirupam approached her two months ago. Matondkar, a Maharashtria herself, would be hoping to appeal to over six lakh Maharashtrian voters in North Mumbai. She is up against BJP strongman Gopal Shetty, who had defeated Nirupam in 2014 by margin of over 4 lakh votes.
