Congress has decided to put faith in veteran leader and former union minister in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government Pawan Kumar Bansal for the Chandigarh seat. Bansal is in a rematch with BJP's Kirron Kher, who had beaten him from the same seat in 2014. Bansal, a former MP from the seat, suffered in 2014 Lok Sabha polls as AAP star candidate Gul Panag absorbed over 1 lakh voters, thus resulting in the splitting of Congress voters and handing a decisive majority to Kher. Bansal would be hoping that Harmohan Dhawal, the AAP candidate this time, doesn't end up harming his prospects. In absence of the 'Modi wave', the seasoned leader would confident of his chances.
